Horror buffs have you ever wondered why your favourite horror movies never really gets close to Bollywood’s 100 Crore Club? Well, in order to reach the mark the movie must be packed with superstar casts, peppy songs and extra extravagant production value. Unfortunately, as we all know, Bollywood horrors are generally considered a low-key affair with fairly average stars and pretty low budgets. Keeping in mind these factors Dark Moon has therefore decided to give you an exclusive “50 Crore Club” solely dedicated to Bollywood Horror.
So, the first movie in Bollywood to enter the club is Priyadarshan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Originally made in Malyalam this psychological Horror was made in several languages but it was the one made in Hindi that was the most successful at the box office. The film has superstar Akshay Kumar in the lead with music director Pritam composing blockbuster song “Teri Ankhen Bhool Bhuliyaa”. The story is about Manjulika, played by Vidya Balan, who gets possessed in a “so called” haunted house owned by her husband (Shiney Ahuja) and indeed has some very chilling moments.
This 2007 hit is the first Bollywood Horror in history to cross the 50 Crore mark at the box office. Before this the highest figure was held by 2002 Horror film “Raaz” which raked in a business of 37 Crore. Figures are not adjusted for inflation.
